father of Keaweokahikona, the son of High chief Kalaninui’iamaomao and Kekaulikeikawekiuonalaniali’i pg. 101 Desha.
He is the Ali’i ‘ai moku of the Hilo districts serving under the Mo’i Kalaniopu’u. When he was away, his status was held by his wife Ululani. He was the chief who muttered the famous quote about pinching the tip of the Wauke bud while awaiting for Keku’iapoiwa to give birth to Kamehameha at Kokoiki. This was a poetic way of saying that the infant needs to be disposed of immediately lest he grow to become a threat to the current ruling chiefs. This set the course of action on the infant for many of the Hawai’i Ali’i including Alapa’i, Kekuhaupi’o, Nae’ole and the sacred twins. Keawemauhili fought on the side of Kiwala’o against Kamehameha at the battle of Moku’ohai where he witnessed the loyalty of his son to the opposing forces. His kapu mahiole was passed to him from his father and was named “Iouli”, “The Head of the Chief”. He is killed at a certain place in Hilo Paliku by one of his own warriors named Mo’o.
